About the Artist

Biography

Gerardo Ruiz Maldonado was born in 1948 in Puebla, Mexico. He is a multifaceted artist who trained at the prestigious Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City, one of the oldest and most respected art institutions in the Americas.

After graduating, he was awarded a scholarship for postgraduate study in sculpture, a distinction that reflected his exceptional talent and potential. He went on to teach visual arts at San Carlos, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of artists.

Artistic Practice

His work spans multiple mediums and disciplines: sculpture, painting, etching, and multimedia techniques. This versatility allows him to explore form, light, and composition in diverse ways, creating a cohesive body of work that speaks to deep artistic inquiry.

Exhibitions & Recognition

Over his career, Gerardo's work has been exhibited extensively:

• More than 25 solo exhibitions in Mexico and abroad
• Approximately 150 group exhibitions across multiple countries
• Works held in permanent museum collections in Venezuela, Bulgaria, and Spain

Teaching & Community

Since 1993, Gerardo has worked and taught from his studio in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. This vibrant artistic community has become central to his practice. He offers workshops in various media, dedicated to sharing traditional and contemporary techniques with aspiring artists of all levels.
