About Art Brut

Art Brut is a term coined by the artist Jan Dubuffet in 1945. It is considered marginal art, an art existing at the periphery of conventional artistic limits, created by artists who work in isolation from the market and dominant movements. These are expressions arising from singular, inner worlds, alien to any purpose other than obedience to themselves. The artworks tend to be direct expressions of emotions, thoughts, and spontaneous personal creative visions, without external influences. It is emotional and raw, without concern for aesthetics. The materials used are, in most cases, combinations of media and techniques, such as recyclables and combinations of vibrant inks, paper, cloth, and other unconventional elements.

This exhibition is the result of Gerardo's experimental practice of spontaneous expressions, without predetermined purpose, utilizing various tools and materials in pieces of various formats. From approximately 70 paintings, 6 have been selected to represent this ongoing exploration of raw creativity and emotional authenticity.
